WRL Team

A centre of excellence bringing together world class scientists

Core Team

Dr Alexander Tournier

Dr Alexander Tournier previously worked as an independent researcher for Cancer Research UK, conducting interdisciplinary research at the boundaries between mathematics, physics and biology. Dr Tournier studied physics at Imperial College, London, and theoretical physics at the University of Cambridge. He wrote his PhD on the biophysics of water-protein interactions at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. For the last 10 years he has been conducting interdisciplinary research at the boundaries between mathematics, physics and biology.

Dr Tournier is the lead researcher for the Water Research Lab, the Stiftung’s primary project.

Dr Everine van de Kraats

Dr van de Kraats studied Medical Technical Computer Science at Utrecht University (NL). She has a PhD in medical imaging from University Medical Center Utrecht (NL), and spent four years as a clinical scientist for cardio vascular applications at Philips Healthcare. Dr van de Kraats subsequently joined the Sino-Dutch Center for Personalized and Preventive Medicine at Leiden University (NL) to build a scientific bridge between Traditional Chinese Medicine and Systems Biology. She continued as head of research at ViaLight Research (NL) where her team investigated water functionality for health and agriculture using numerous research methods and instruments.

Her interest has grown towards using near-infrared spectroscopy with aquaphotomics approach to study water systems. She is actively involved in creating an international aquaphotomics society.

The wider WRL team includes leading scientists from different disciplines.

Dr Stephan Baumgartner

Dr Baumgartner attained a Master in Experimental Physics  from the University of Basel in 1990 and completed a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, in 1995.

He has been a Senior Research Scientist (50% at Hiscia Institute, Society for Cancer Research, Arlesheim, Switzerland, 50% at the Institute of Complementary Medicine, University of Bern, Switzerland) since 1996, and has also been a Lecturer at the University of Bern since 2009. He has been a Senior Research Scientist at the Institute of Integrative Medicine, University of Witten-Herdecke, Germany since 2011.
